Peaceful Paths Collection Drive

Eta Sigma Gamma would likeyour participation with the Peaceful Paths donations drive taking place through November 30.

Peaceful Paths, a domestic abuse shelter, is collecting personal items for the abused women and children in their care. You can help this important cause by cleaning out your closets and bringing items back from Thanksgiving break. You may donate items such as women and children’s clothing, jewelry and accessories, personal care products, cosmetics, books, toys and games. You may drop items off in donation boxes, which are located in the Florida Gym, UF dorms, and several Gainesville apartment complexes. Florida Alternative Breaks Spring Applications

Are you still looking for something to do this spring break?
Well, Florida Alternative Breaks is still looking for participants for its spring break trips. FAB takes students on week-long trips of community service based upon specific social issues. With twelve domestic trip issues and three international trip issues this spring, we are sure to offer a trip which interests you. All trip issues, descriptions, and applications can be found online at http://www.leadershipandservice.ufl.edu/studentorgs/fab/

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis and can be turned in to the Center for Leadership and Service in Peabody Hall. FAB is accepting spring break applications on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply to change the world now.

Projects for Peace 2010

Informational sessions will be held November 16 at 5 p.m. in the J. Wayne Reitz Union room 285 and November 18 at 6 p.m. in Peabody Hall room 202.

UF students have once again been invited to participate in Projects for Peace, which is an initiative for students to design their own grassroots projects for peace that they will implement during the summer of 2010. The top projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each. Preliminary drafts are due December 11, 2009 and the final proposal deadline is January 8, 2010. Global Medical Training 2nd Meeting

The next Global Medical Training (GMT) meeting will be on Monday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Rinker 110. GMT is a national humanitarian organization that provides free medical and dental services to medically deprived communities in Central/Latin America. All premed, predent, and prehealth students interested in a medical/dental service trip are welcome. Gain hands-on experience in the field of your interest and don’t miss this great opportunity to learn by doing.

Recurso’s International Service Trip to Nicaragua

Each summer, Recurso organizes an international service trip to take 24 students at the University of Florida to Nicaragua.

Participants work to implement a variety of projects to assist those living in extreme poverty. These include a Dental Hygiene Campaign, Clean Water Initiative, Prenatal Health Program, and Renovation Projects at local orphanages and schools. Members also take time to travel the country and gain a better understanding of the culture and beauty of Nicaragua.

Applications are now available on the Recurso Web site http://recursouf.wordpress.com and should be submitted by December 2, 2009.

CHISPAS Alternative Spring Break

The Coalition of Hispanics Integrating Spanish Speakers through Advocacy and Service (CHISPAS) is proud to announce applications for the 2010 Alternative Spring Break Trip. Participants will be immersing themselves into two migrant communities including Jupiter, FL., characterized by Guatemalan and other indigenous Central American migrants who work in landscaping and construction, and Immokalee, FL., characterized by Mexican, Haitian and other Central American migrants who work as agricultural workers in tomato fields.
Service projects will center around the themes of law, health and education including know your rights presentations, health forums, pesticide awareness, English as a Second Language classes, etc. An informational session will be held November 17 at 7 p.m. in the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures. Crossing Borders Service Trip

Children Beyond Our Borders is now accepting applications for their Crossing Borders 2010 service trips to Medellin and Cartagena, Colombia. There are two leadership positions per trip, and there are several volunteer positions. Peace Corps and the Graduate Student

Have a Masters degree? Considering graduate school? Come to the Hub (International Center) on Wednesday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. to find out about joining the Peace Corps before you earn your graduate degree or while simultaneously earning your graduate degree. Earning a graduate degree gives you an advantage when applying to the Peace Corps.
