Deadline this week for Intercollegiate Athletics Committee

The deadline to apply for membership on the 2008-2009 Intercollegiate Athletics Committee is June 27, 2008. The I.A.C. is the faculty-student committee which recommends academic policies concerning athletics. Student applicants should be enrolled on a full time basis in a degree program, be in good academic standing, and have a record of leadership and involvement in the UF community. Applications are available on line at http://www.ufsa.ufl.edu/

They also may be picked up in the Vice President for Student Affairs Office, 155 Tigert Hall, Dean of Students Office, P202 Peabody Hall, the Information Desk in the J. Wayne Reitz Union and Student Activities in Room 330 of the Reitz Union. The applications must be returned to the Student Affairs Office, 155 Tigert Hall by the deadline.

UF students are invited to apply for membership on the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (1 position available). The appointment is for the 2008-2009 academic year. A list of committees can be found on the Provost’s website at http://www.aa.ufl.edu/committees/#presidential.

If you are interested in being considered for an appointment to a university committee complete the on line application at the following website: http://www.dso.ufl.edu/vpsa/. Students eligible to serve on university committees will be selected from this pool of applicants. Vacancies on committees that occur during the year will be filled from this pool of applicants.

The deadline for application is Friday, June 13, 2008.

Summer 2008 Outstanding Leadership Award for Male and Female Graduating Seniors

Nominations now are being accepted for the Summer 2008 Outstanding Leadership Award for Male and Female Graduating Seniors, sponsored by the University of Florida Alumni Association. The students selected for these awards will be acknowledged at the graduation ceremonies on August 9th. Applications may be downloaded from the Dean of Students website at http://www.dso.ufl.edu/scholarships/ola.php or may be picked up from the Dean of Students Office, Information Desk, 202 Peabody Hall or the Center for Student Involvement, 300 J. Wayne Reitz Union.The application must be completed and submitted by the student. Letters of recommendation by faculty and staff are encouraged.The deadline for all applications is June 10, 2008. Look no further, the Women’s Mentoring Program strives to create a more supportive learning environment on the University of Florida campus community by providing undergraduate women with the tools and guidance of those who have truly “been there” and exposing and confronting stigmas concerning women in leadership roles. Please email completed applications to Amanda MacDougall- Women’s Mentoring Program Director: Women’s Leadership Council at amac27@ufl.edu.

Gator Growl/Homecoming Assistant Director Applications

Want to get involved in Homecoming and Gator Growl but feel like you do not have the experience? Become an assistant director! There are more than 100 positions available in a variety of areas, and you do not need to be in Gainesville over the summer. Applications are available in the Florida Blue Key office (on the third floor of the Reitz Union) and are due on May 14, 2008 by 5pm. Show your Gator spirit by helping run the largest student-run Homecoming celebration in the country.

Team Hoyt Motivational Speaker

Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-and-son team from Massachusetts who together compete in marathon races. And if they’re not in a marathon they are in a triathlon — that daunting, almost superhuman, combination of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. It’s a remarkable record of exertion — all the more so when you consider that Rick can’t walk or talk. For the past twenty five years or more Dick, who is 65, has pushed and pulled his son across the country and over hundreds of finish lines. When Dick runs, Rick is in a wheelchair that Dick is pushing. When Dick cycles, Rick is in the seat-pod from his wheelchair, attached to the front of the bike. When Dick swims, Rick is in a small but heavy, firmly stabilized boat being pulled by Dick. Dick Hoyt of TEAM HOYT, will be speaking here in Gainesville on May 14th at 7PM. This is motivational/inspirational message for both sporting and non-sporting listeners. The themes are for inclusion of handicapped individuals and accomplishing our goals. The community-wide free event will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church. The facilities are handicapped accessible and the physically disabled are welcome.
