Children’s Home Society of Florida’s Embracing Children, Inspiring Lives Internship Program is a structured learning tool for students to be able to learn skills for future careers. While receiving internship credits, students will have the ability to work with programs that are breaking the cycle of child abuse in your community. They can participate in programs that focus on facilitating adoptions of foster children, child abuse prevention, parent education, counseling, mentoring, human resources, fundraising, public relations, and so much more. Gator Plunge

Gator Plunge is a half-day community service project where hundreds of student volunteers team up for a day of service to work on projects throughout campus and the community. Gator Plunge offers a wide range of service opportunities for students to get involved, including working with animals, art and culture, elder care, youth development and the environment. Common Reading Program Essay Submission

The Common Reading Essay Contest is intended to celebrate the scholarship of University of Florida students and their engagement in important social issues. Two first-year student essays will be chosen, one in the humanities and one in the sciences. A wide variety of essays will be considered, from scientific research to philosophical or even personal reflection. In all cases the essays should strive toward scholarly excellence. The essays will be featured on the Common Reading Program web site and considered for publication in the Journal of Undergraduate Research. Winners of Talent Night will get the chance to perform in Gator Growl 2008 “Road to the Swamp” presented by Verizon Wireless.Talent Night, Presented by Taco Bell, will be held on October 7th in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom and admission is FREE.

Manage an After-School Program

Program coordinator for the City of Gainesville’s Teen Zone working with principal and teachers, communicating with parents, and taking registrations and attendance reports and entering them into computer. Duties include daily planning for various activities. Outside sports - basketball, flag football, cheerleading, soccer. Inside activities includes computers, arts and crafts, cooking class. Program starts after Labor Day and ends in late May. Average is 25 to 30 hours. Rate is 13 dollars per hour. If interested please contact Brian Shea at 334 - 2186 - x - 2. Sustainability is most commonly defined as meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is characterized by three overarching concerns: maintaining ecological and environmental health; creating economic welfare; and ensuring social justice. The aim of the Minor in Sustainability Studies is to help students understand the ways in which these three concerns are interrelated and to explore how they best can be pursued at local, national, and global scales.The Minor is thoroughly interdisciplinary, benefiting from the teaching and research of faculty from multiple departments and colleges. It is explicitly designed to complement any major area of study.The gateway course for the minor, Facets of Sustainability (IDS 2935) is open to all students, whether they are enrolled in the Minor or not and is being taught in Fall 2008.Learn more about the Minor in Sustainability Studies at www.clas.ufl.edu/sustainability

UF Student Government, Gainesville High School, Alachua County Public School Foundation, and PACE Center for Girls proudly bring you OUTFIT ALACHUA. Just drop off gently used clothing of all sizes for high school aged boys and girls at any of the drop off boxes located at the Student Government Office, Southwest Recreation, and Racquet Club. Collection is from July 27th to August 7th. All donations will be used to help Alachua County high school teens.
