Peaceful Paths Collection Drive

Eta Sigma Gamma would likeyour participation with the Peaceful Paths donations drive taking place through November 30.

Peaceful Paths, a domestic abuse shelter, is collecting personal items for the abused women and children in their care. You can help this important cause by cleaning out your closets and bringing items back from Thanksgiving break. You may donate items such as women and children’s clothing, jewelry and accessories, personal care products, cosmetics, books, toys and games. You may drop items off in donation boxes, which are located in the Florida Gym, UF dorms, and several Gainesville apartment complexes. Namibian Field Ecology and Ecotourism Study Abroad Program

In the Namibian Field Ecology and Ecotourism course, there will be field studies of Namibian birds and mammals at Otjiwa Game Ranch. Students will participate on two game drives and an all day Rhino stalk. Theywill also visit Cheetah Conservation Fund. In the final week, they will visit Sossusvlei, the Namib Naukluft Park, the Namib Desert, and Cape Cross (home to thousands of Cape Fur Seals).

WIS 4905 – Namibian Field Mammalogy

WIS 4905 – Namibian Field Ornithology

WIS 4905 – Ecotourism Management in Namibia (2 credits each).

Boren Scholarship Information Session

On Thursday, November 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 347 of the Reitz Union a representative from the Institute of International Education will be speaking with interested students about the National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships.

NOTE: 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon – undergraduate scholarships

12:00 noon to 1:00 PM – graduate fellowships

UNDERGRADUATE: The Boren Scholarship provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Boren Scholars are awarded up to $20,000 for an academic year.

GRADUATE: The Boren Fellowship provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The fellowship allows graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate studies. Boren Fellows are awarded up to $30,000 for two academic years.

Florida Alternative Breaks Spring Applications

Well, Florida Alternative Breaks is still looking for participants for its spring break trips. FAB takes students on week-long trips of community service based upon specific social issues. With twelve domestic trip issues and three international trip issues this spring, we are sure to offer a trip which interests you. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis and can be turned in to the Center for Leadership and Service in Peabody Hall. FAB is accepting spring break applications on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply to change the world now.

Projects for Peace 2010

Informational sessions will be held November 16 at 5 p.m. in the J. Wayne Reitz Union room 285 and November 18 at 6 p.m. in Peabody Hall room 202.

UF students have once again been invited to participate in Projects for Peace, which is an initiative for students to design their own grassroots projects for peace that they will implement during the summer of 2010. The top projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each. Preliminary drafts are due December 11, 2009 and the final proposal deadline is January 8, 2010.
