What do endless climbs of mountains, bear sightings, stinky fellow hikers, floods, and freeze dried food have to do with university life? Quite a bit, actually! Come hear Jill’s entertaining story of AT adventures and the meaning they may hold for your own college journey. Themes: time management, making the most of your experience, and self-reflection.

The 2008-2009 season is set to be an exciting one with repertoire including Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Respighi and also full performances of Bartok’s ballet, The Miraculous Mandarin and the Puccini opera, Tosca. The Orchestra meets Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Music Building from 1:55-3:50. This exhibition presents recent video installations by five international artists with ties to Africa. The artworks are large-scale and some works contain unique sculptural componentsone being a pool of water below the screen to reflect the video image and the other a layer of soil with inscribed words. Each work uses water as a symbol for many concepts including family, identity, violence and spiritual transformation. On view through Sept. 7, 2008. Free admission. www.harn.ufl.edu

Participants can run a 5K or walk a one-mile “Lake Alice Loop” route. Pre-registration is open through April 21 at Southwest Recreation Center. Pre-registration is $10 for Gator 1 cardholders and $20 for non-Gator 1 cardholders. On-site registration will be available the night of the event for $20. Registration includes a T-shirt, Gators wristband and a hot breakfast at Gator Corner Dining Hall following the run.
