President’s Social Sciences Speaker Series

Filed under Academic, Events on November 4, 2020.

Join President Kent Fuchs to hear a presentation and be part of a Q&A with Professor of Florida Archeology Kenneth E. Sassaman.

Drawing on ancient Native American and contemporary experiences with hurricanes, Professor Sassaman will discuss how societies remember—and forget—the climate events that shape history.

Professor Sassaman is the Hyatt and Cici Brown Professor or Florida Archaeology in the Department of Anthropology. Since arriving at UF in 1998, Professor Sassaman has led archaeological field work in the St. Johns River valley and on the northern Gulf Coast of Florida, including in nearby Cedar Key. His research on both coasts focuses on the long term histories of Native Americans and their technological innovations, social networks and sustainable living practices.

The event is Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 11;45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Space is limited. RSVP today at
