Mental Health Training Ambassador

The Counseling and Wellness Center is currently hiring an upper-class undergrad or graduate student to aid in our promotion and implementation of the Kognito program. Kognito is an online training module to help people feel empowered to have difficult conversations with their loved one regarding mental health concerns and suicide. This position as the Kognito Program Ambassador will be in charge of promoting the program on the campus of the University of Florida through engagement with student organizations, departments, and faculty and staff.
The Kognito Program Ambassador is responsible for contacting and connecting with student groups and college departments by offering aid in integrating the Kognito program into their ambassador programs, college departments and student organizations on campus. The duties also include presenting on Kognito at student and faculty meetings when asked, attending tabling and outreach events, and creating informational material and handouts for students and faculty. The Kognito Program Ambassador is also responsible for leading Kognito workshops throughout the semester in which students or faculty and staff complete the Kognito training through a one-hour training that helps engage the participants further and allows them to ask questions to the Kognito Program Ambassador.
The knowledge needed for this job includes but is not limited to foundational understanding in Public Health and Mental Health theory, understanding health education best practices, an understanding for collegiate mental health trends, and a learned understanding of the Kognito online training. The skills needed for this position is previous exposure or practice in health education and mental health conversation. Also, a familiarity with leading workshops and speaking to large groups is preferred. The abilities of this position include being self-sufficient and independent in the workplace as this training is fully under the leadership of the Ambassador. Also, a desire and passion for public health and mental health improvement is preferred. Speech clarity and written comprehension are also preferred due to the high volume of communication between departments and groups that the Ambassador is expected to do.
Applicants should be upper-class undergrads or graduate students at the University of Florida and have experience in Public Health, Health Education, Psychology or a related field. They should also have a good understanding of the various student networks on campus which include but are not limited to the Department of Student Affairs, UF Housing, the Dean of Student offices, Student Government, and the Counseling and Wellness Center. Salary will range from $10-12 an hour for a maximum of 10 hours per week, depending on experience.

Second Round In-person interviews will occur March 23-27.
