Before You Leave: Summer Abroad Tech Tips

Filed under Administrative, Information Tech on June 10, 2019.

Before you leave for Summer B study abroad, read and follow these guidelines to keep your laptop and information safe:

  1. Wherever you go, secure UF WiFi is most likely available through eduroam. Anyone with a valid GatorLink account has access to eduroam in more than 90 countries and 6,000 institutions. The great thing about eduroam is it is a secure connection, unlike open WiFi in cafes and other locations. Just look for eduroam on your device’s WiFi options when you go to connect.
  2. If you must connect to another Wi-Fi network besides eduroam, confirm with the restaurant or business owner for the WiFi network name to avoid connecting to networks that are made to steal personal information.
  3. If you are using a university computer, make sure to log out when you’re done and opt out when asked if you want the device, browser, or site to remember your password.

Before you leave, if you have any questions about how to connect to eduroam or find it on your mobile device, call or stop by the UF Computing Help Desk for assistance.
