Celebrate the 57th anniversary of humans in space at Yuri’s Night on Saturday, April 7 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Physics Building Lobby.

Yuri’s Night parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human to venture into space on April 12, 1961, and the inaugural launch of the first Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981.

There will be a space-themed costume contest (bring your friends and dress up!), live physics demos, an indoor planetarium, space themed trivia, food, music, and prizes.

Yuri’s night is open to everyone and is hosted by the following organizations:

  • Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)
  • Society of Physics Students (SPS)
  • Astronomy and Astrophysics Society (AAS)
  • Space Systems Design Club (SSDC)
