Why Gridlock Rules Washington and How We Can Solve the Crisis

Filed under Academic, Events on October 22, 2017.

Former members of Congress David Jolly (R) and Patrick Murphy (D) will speak at the Bob Graham Center about gridlock in Washington at 6 p.m., Oct. 25 in Pugh Hall’s Ocora. During their years in Congress, Murphy represented a Republican-leaning district in South Florida, while Jolly represented a Democrat-leaning district on Florida’s Gulf Coast.  Despite their difference in political leanings the two successfully worked together on several divisive issues and in the end found common ground. Jolly and Murphy will discuss opportunities for bipartisanship leadership and how to build political consensus in order to avoid a perpetual state of stalemate and dysfunction.
