Changes to Florida Bright Futures Scholarship

Filed under Administrative, Financial, Uncategorized on June 26, 2009.

The 2009 Florida Legislative Session resulted in several changes to the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program for the 2009-10 academic year.

Students should pay particular attention to the changes regarding renewal criteria and repayment for courses funded by Bright Futures that are dropped/withdrawn.

Beginning Fall Semester 2009, Bright Futures recipients are required to meet new minimum credit hour requirements to renew their award each year. The Florida Legislature now requires full-time students to earn at least 24 semester hours to renew their award at the end of the spring term.

The Florida Legislature also now requires students to repay the cost of any course dropped or withdrawn after the drop add period. Repayment for the cost of a dropped or withdrawn course is required to renew a Bright Futres award for a subsequent academic year. There is an exception to this requirement for medical withdrawals.
