Are You Sure That is Legal? File Sharing May Violate Copyright Law

Filed under Information Tech on January 27, 2008.

UF is receiving an increased number of copyright complaints, especially from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Many complaints identify content shared using BitTorrent, among other file-sharing software.  It is a violation of federal and state law to copy content for which you do not have a license.  Copyright violations detected at UF are subject to UF disciplinary action and may result in criminal action.
