Florida FlyIns 2007 Exhibition
Andros Island in Words and Pictures, features photography, writing and multimedia by 13 international journalism students who documented life on the largest island of the Bahamas. The students’ work will be showcased at the University of Florida beginning December 4, 2007. The exhibition will be on display through December 15, 2007. A reception will be held on December 4, 2007 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Reitz Union Gallery on the second floor of Reitz Union, and is free and open to the public. As part of the Florida FlyIns international journalism course, students spent a week photographing and writing about the residents of Andros Island. They chronicled the lives of the island’s well-known fishermen, spent time with Haitian immigrants seeking refuge, and documented artists struggling to earn a living wage. The exhibit features photographs, story excerpts, and multimedia storytelling. The class, taught by Professor John Kaplan, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, travels to a different country each fall semester. Beginning in January, the program’s online magazine will again be published at www.internationaljournalism.com
